Stephenville is surrounded by Salmon Fishing Rivers and waters for kayaking and canoeing.  Towering cliffs, walking trails and pebble beaches are excellent wonderful sites for those who are beachcombers or love to bird watch.  The seascapes are magnificent.

For those who want to explore!

The French Ancestors Route, around the Port au Port Peninsula, brings you to such places as Cape St. George, La Grand Terre and L'anse a Canards.  With towering cliffs, pebble beaches and a distinctive French culture, this iwll be a route you will be sure to enjoy.

The Caribou Trail, 148 kilometers through the Long Range Mountains, terminates in the outport town of Burgeo, a town immortalized in Farley Mowatt's 'A Whale for the Killing...'

Sandy Point the historic Island of Sandy Point was once the largest settlement on the West Coast of Newfoundland and the commercial centre during the 1700's and 1800's.  Local efforts are underway to establish a heritage and wildlife conservation area as Sandy Point is a nesting area of the Piping Plover, an endangered species, and the only know nesting area in North America of the European Black-headed Gull.
